it began in 1949.

With beginnings dating back to 1941, the Atlanta Dairies cooperative provided dairy products to surrounding neighborhoods in Southeast Atlanta for generations. Its permanent home was established in 1949, and eventually played host to a laundry company, an ice cream parlor, and after its sale in 1993, a new dairy provider: Parmalat Dairies. Following a devastating tornado that struck the city in 2008, Parmalat closed, and with it the building lay vacant.

But the sturdy art-deco structure —now listed on the National Register of Historic Places— persevered. In the 2010s, design and architecture firm Perkins & Will visited the site and saw potential. In collaboration with owner/developer Paces Properties, lead designer David Rogers and project architect Erika Kane worked to revive the building, developing it into a mixed-use community to be filled with shops, restaurants, a brewery, and a music venue. While the need for localized processing of dairy no longer remains, Atlanta Dairies lives on to serve its city for a whole new generation.

the legacy continues.

Today, Atlanta Dairies has changed into the hands of investment firm Asana Partners, who are committed to being good stewards of the Atlanta community and ushering in another vibrant chapter for the storied property. And for another era, the emblematic red and white Atlanta Dairies milk carton sign remains.
